Does anyone know of any crash bungs that are actually designed for the 97 rrv. I have tried various makes but none of them seem to offer any resonable protection. The places that they bolt on to just fit to the plastic work and obviously would just break in any sort of collision. Surely they need to bolt to the frame. Any suggestions or links gratefully received

R&G crash bungs are pretty good, I had them fitted to my RRR, they do require the fairing to be drilled tho. I even managed to test them out and only damage to the bike was a slightly scuffed bottom faring, and a slightly bent rear brake peddle. ( see gallery couple of blades ) and you might just see the damage to the bike

Motrax got an excellent write up in MCN a couple of years ago, and they are a decent price aswell.

Got mine on Ebay and didn't need to drill the frame. Dirt cheap too.

no idea 'grenguard', thats if you 'do' have to drill the fairing... , maybe you just might have to take a deep breath and measure it accurately matey... whatever the outcome, dont forget a picture...

Very easy to fit, no template required. Instructions for the R&G ones went something like this:
Remove center faring panels, remove engine top engine mounting bolts, insert crash bung bolt ( bolt only ) ( do not screw in ), re-fit fairing, paint top of bolt ( touch up pen or something along that lines ) slide bolt out so paint marks inside of faring, remove fairing and drill in center of mark, ( should tell you which size of hole saw to use, think it was something like a 19mm though) re-fit fairing, fit crash bungs,
Job done
Must be easy even I managed it with no problems lol

Yep, R&G, they cost but do the job well. Its always a bit nerve racking when you have to take a drill to ya blade - but when I done mine, all guesswork and the neighbours tools, I couldn't believe how easy the job was - lol, torquerench, what the hells that then!?!

R&G are good. They look well made and fit fine. Slide the engine bolt out until it touches the fairing and draw round it. This is where you drill. No tricky measuring really needed.
My bungs!!
